First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of North Hollywood is a mission outreach focused church. We support and partner with many agencies and programs that help feed, clothe, shelter, heal and empower people in need. We tithe 10% of all member contributions to the Disciples Mission Fund and each year raise thousands of dollars for Interfaith Food Pantry and many other local and regional outreach programs. Our members are active in local outreach programs through our Human Needs group and participate in mission trips throughout the year.

Bringing Hope and Justice to a Broken World

Join others who are willing to dedicate their time and energy to putting Christ’s gospel of love into action. Volunteer at INTERFAITH FOOD PANTRY, HUMAN NEEDS, TREES FOR KIDS, FCCNH PRAYER GROUP, OPERATION SANTA CLAUS, SUMMER CAMPS, MISSION TRIPS. There’s a place for you. We need your help!

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry began distributing food in 1983 from a Sunday School classroom at FCCNH. Thirty-two years later, supported by numerous interfaith congregations and 100% volunteer-driven, the Pantry now distributes 16,000 emergency food bags annually to more than 40,000 people in the area, including 10,000 children.

It takes more than 200 volunteers to collect, pack, transport and distribute emergency food supplies every week. Food is distributed twice a week from the distribution center at FCCNH.

Human Needs

Our Human Needs group is focused primarily on providing hot meals to the homeless population in our surrounding area and to folks unable to afford to feed themselves adequately. The group serves a hot meal on the second Sunday of each month at North Hollywood Park. They typically serve between sixty and ninety people with a larger attendance at the Thanksgiving meal in November when a traditional Thanksgiving meal is served on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. If there is extra food at the end of serving, the group offers it in take-away boxes.

Members of this outreach group do not have to attend meetings or commit to being there every month. This ministry has been active for several years and continues to be welcomed by those who look forward to having a free hot meal each month.

Deborah Luster is the leader of the Human Needs group with assistance from other members. Join us and make a difference in your community. Please contact the church office for more information: fccnh@earthlink.net.

Media Ministry

FCCNH uses technology and media in many ways to support its ministries, worship and outreach events. Our Media Crew is a group of volunteers with skills as audio engineers, videographers, graphic artists, video editors and photographers, all of whom have professional or semi-professional technical expertise in the various media disciplines. Our Media Crew volunteers help with mixing, live sound reinforcement, preparing and broadcasting slides and videos, and a variety of other media-related tasks that help enable and support the many and varied ministries at FCCNH.

If you have a media skill and would like to volunteer your time and expertise, please contact our Media Director, Greg Kirkland:  greg@fccnh.org

Trees for Kids

FCCNH Christmas Tree Lot

Started over 30 years ago, our Christmas Tree Lot – now called Trees for Kids – has raised over $500,000 for programs in the San Fernando Valley that directly benefit children. Each year a section of our parking lot is transformed into a Christmas Tree Lot. Thanks to the help of many volunteers, trees and wreathes are sold to the community raising funds for deserving agencies and programs that support, nurture, and protect children. You can help. Whether it’s simply helping put up the tent, or providing food for our volunteers, or working at the lot once or several times, there’s a place for you. And our ‘old pros’ will help you learn everything you need to know to do the job! Help spread the joy and spirit of Christmas. Help a child in need.  Be a part of Trees for Kids this year.

Operation Santa

Each year on one Saturday in December, our Social Hall is transformed into Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole. Thanks to the help of many volunteers, and the inspiration of member Ken Wilson, each year FCCNH collects toys and gifts that are distributed to the children of families in the area struggling to bring their children a joyous Christmas.

A many-year tradition that has brought smiles and joy to countless children in our area, Operation Santa is a festive opportunity to join others in spreading the cheer and warmth of Christmas.

Please contact the office if you’d like to donate toys, money or help at the event. fccnh@earthlink.net.

Other Opportunities to Serve

In addition to the programs listed in this section, there are many other ways you can use your time and talents to serve God and support ministries that help change people’s lives.

Volunteer to teach a Sunday School class; be a driver for a youth trip; help prepare or serve food at a Meet ‘n Greet; help prepare the sanctuary for worship; help out in the Nursery; volunteer to help at one of the summer youth camps; make costumes for the Christmas pageant; become a Deacon or Elder; work on the Property Council; become involved in one of the many ways we are supporting green movements and environmentally friendly efforts; use your music skills or repairing skills.

Whatever you have to offer, there is a need and a place for you. Contact one of the clergy or staff, or call the church office.

Make your life a story worth telling!
