Chancel Choir (Adult)

Sundays in the Sanctuary

Senior Pastor Bob Bock

Join a diverse, friendly community whose hospitality knows no boundaries. Just as Christ welcomed all to His flock, so do we, with no limitations. At this family-oriented service, dynamic preaching is combined with moving music from our renowned Chancel and Youth Choirs featuring a blend of classical, rousing gospel, and inspirational contemporary music. The great traditional hymns, accompanied by our 71-rank Rogers pipe organ, are always sung, but on any given Sunday worshippers may find themselves invited to sing or hear inspirational popular songs, too.

We celebrate Holy Communion every week and everyone is invited to participate.

Children worship with their parents in the beginning of the service, and enjoy a special Children’s Message before leaving for their Sunday School classes.  Nursery care is always provided by a trained and attentive staff. Off-street parking is available in the parking lot on the South side of the sanctuary.

Music and Choir Directors

David Rigsby
David Rigsby served as the staff organist at First Christian Church of North Hollywood from 2006-2008, and after serving as organist in another denomination since 2008, he is thrilled to be back at First Christian Church family. In 2018 David took over the job of Organist AND Music Director. David helps lead worship from the Rodgers organ console each week, accompanies soloists and the chancel choir in special music selections, and rehearses with the music director and chancel choir each Thursday evening, in addition to his work as organist for church weddings and memorial services.

David was born and raised in the downriver area of Detroit, Michigan and came to southern California at barely eighteen years of age for his bachelor’s degree in church music from Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in San Dimas. Along the way, he has played organ and piano and directed music in many churches of many denominations. He was a church music director in Savannah, Georgia from 1992-1995, and then in Colorado from 1995-1997 and returned to California to work in public education as a choral music teacher, earning his California teacher credential and completing his coursework in the master’s program at California State University, Long Beach. He has held music teaching positions in schools in La Mirada, Long Beach, and currently in Anaheim at Loara High School, where he has worked as choir director since 2006.

On New Year’s Day of 2006, David came to First Christian to be the organ “sub” for that day. Six years later, he couldn’t be happier to be back at the console of FCCNH, assisting the congregation as they lift their voices together in song.

Youth Choir

Open to youth in grades 6 through 12, the Youth Choir rehearses Sundays from 11:45am – 12:45pm between September and June. During the choir season, they participate in church services, a Spring Concert, and field trip performances.  This program offers experience and confidence in singing, performing, harmonizing, and reading music. It also cultivates a culture that lets students grow in faith and serve God through their musical gifts by leading worship in the church and around the community.

Children's Choir

Open to children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade, the Children’s Choir rehearses Sunday mornings from 9am – 9:50am from September to June. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn about music and song while lifting up their voices to God.

During the choir season, they sing three to four times at church services as well as in the Christmas Pageant and a Spring Concert. This program develops confidence in their voices while offering a personal expression of faith. It also teaches rhythm through opportunities to play a variety of percussion instruments.

For more information, contact Ty Parr, Director of Children’s Music, by calling the office or e-mailing her at ty@fccnh.org. Parent instrumentalists and volunteers are encouraged to join us.

Worship Band

The SpiritSong worship band, led by worship leader Tyanna Parr, performs every Sunday at 5:30pm in the Social Hall setting of this casual, informal service. Comprised of musicians and singers who regularly tour with some of the biggest acts in the entertainment industry, the band leads the congregation in contemporary worship songs and presents a special musical offering during each service.

Ty and the band welcome those who would like to offer their musical gifts. Guest songwriters, instrumentalists and singers regularly add their talents to this dynamic band over the course of the year. If you’d like to be involved, contact Ty by calling the office or e-mailing her at ty@fccnh.org.

Pipe Organ

Sunday morning worship includes inspirational organ music and hymn accompaniments played by organist David Rigsby. FCCNH installed its pipe organ, designed by Ladd Thomas and built by the Schantz Organ Co., in 1972. The organ originally had a 2-manual console with 32 stops playing 18 ranks of pipes.

In 1994 Robert Tall and Assoc. replaced the original console with a Rodgers three-manual digital console that expanded the organ to 47 stops, adding many digital pipe voices to the existing pipes.
